What do we know about God? Where did we learn what we know? How can we trust our knowledge? Before we dive into the book of Luke, let’s take a minute to focus our attention on these verses:
“I have known from my earliest days that your laws will last forever.” (Psalms 119:152 NLT)
“I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:3-5 NIV)
“Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 AMP)
Now let’s examine what Luke has to say. The book of Luke opens with an introduction and statement of purpose. Luke was committed to finding and explaining the TRUTH in a way that could be trusted. How do we establish what can be trusted?
I’m not a Lawyer and Luke wasn’t either, but “Rules of Evidence” would typically include key points on the following areas: Relevance, Hearsay, Character Evidence, Authentication, Best Evidence Rule, Expert Testimony, Privileges. So, Luke according to verse 3 “investigated everything”. In our busy lives do we invest the time to do the research? Do we rely on the “experts”? Do we wait to experience everything firsthand?
Will we allow Luke to take us back to the beginning and reestablish the validity, integrity and power in our faith. Will we become VIP’s — believers filled with the validity of scripture, uncompromising integrity of the promise, and the power of the Holy Spirit?
