The last time I posted, I asked, “Who was Mark?” According to biblical researchers, Mark was a companion of Peter. He was the youngest of the authors of the four gospels. My next question was, “What’s his rush?” To answer that question we need to call upon our knowledge of young people. Everything’s a crisis and has to happen immediately. Reading the book of Mark is like watching the “highlights reel” of Jesus’ life and ministry. The book is dramatic and fast paced. The next two questions can only be answered by your personal understanding. “How is Jesus being revealed? Is the urgency catching fire in us?” There is so much depth and richness to be uncovered in this gospel. We’re doing well in our quest and your comments and questions are necessary. I hope you’re enjoying the journey!
Moving into chapter four, we see Jesus intentionally veiling revelations about the Kingdom of God—Why?
“Jesus used many similar stories and illustrations to teach the people as much as they could understand. In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them. … The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”” (Mark 4:33-34, 41 NLT)
We have the advantage of looking backward into history, but we also face the challenges of living by faith. Embrace the joys of personal discovery as we grow. Allow the roots of our faith to be intertwined. We have more stability together!
How is God using these readings to grow you?
