When we look for teachers, mentors, or counselors, what attributes are most important — age, wisdom, effectiveness, experience, authority — what do we look for in a teacher? Who are the people we choose to follow?
From the moment Jesus called His first disciples, He traveled from place to place preparing people for the Kingdom of God. “Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness.” (Matthew 4:23 NLT)
Here in our reading Jesus is continuing that pattern. As we read chapter 7, focus on the behaviors being addressed.
How can we recognize followers of Christ?
Does asking and answering that question imply or activate judgment?
Why is persistence in prayer so effective?
Where can we find the narrow gate?
“When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.” (Matthew 7:28-29 NLT)
Lord, as we look into Your word, help us build our lives on You as our solid foundation. Guide us as we develop persistent prayer. Teach us to honestly inspect the fruit of our lives. We offer all praise and glory to You, in Jesus’ name amen.
