“A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, ‘Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.’ Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!’ Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy.” (Matthew 8:2-3 NIV)
In Matthew 8, we encounter one of the most powerful moments in Jesus’ earthly ministry—a moment that reveals His compassion, power, and willingness to respond to our deepest needs. A man suffering from leprosy, an incurable and isolating disease in that time, approached Jesus with desperation and faith. Falling to his knees, he pleaded, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
Notice the leper’s faith: he didn’t question Jesus’ ability to heal. He believed in His power. What he wasn’t sure of was Jesus’ willingness. How often have we found ourselves in the same place? We might pray, “Lord, I know You can intervene, but will You do it for me? Do You see my pain? Are You willing to meet me where I am?”
Jesus’ response is profound. Without hesitation, He reached out and touched the man, saying, “I am willing. Be clean!” This wasn’t merely a physical healing. In touching the man—someone society considered untouchable—Jesus restored his dignity and connection to the world. The man’s body was healed, but so was his heart.

Perhaps it’s a broken relationship, a health crisis, financial struggles, or a deep spiritual wound. Whatever it is, this passage reminds us of a powerful truth: Jesus not only has the power to change our circumstances, but He is also willing to meet us in our mess, touch our hearts, and bring restoration.
