Matthew Chapter 11

Do we “pick and choose” details we share when we are working to convince people to accept our perspectives on a matter? So far in our readings through the book of Matthew, which details have we been given? What purpose is driving Matthew in his unveiling of Jesus?

Read this chapter with those questions in mind. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted. “Take every thought captive!”

John the Baptist embraced the question, ““Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬) What does Jesus’ response tell us? How are these details relevant to Matthews’s purpose in writing?

What would Jesus say about our generation? How far are we removed from “the unbelieving?” We began this year’s reading plan in Matthew chapter one and I asked the question: Are we preparing to make the leap into the miraculous? Taking that step requires us to accept and understand who Jesus is! ““My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭27‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Our prayer for today: Father, lead us by Your Holy Spirit to those who will listen, understand, and accept the message of the Messiah. Fill us as You did the Apostles. Allow us to recognize and live within the authority and love Christ has given to us. Give us ears to hear Your voice and the strength and boldness to respond to Your leading. We ask all these things for Your glory and in the name of Jesus. Amen!

If you’ve joined in that prayer, come back to this post and share how God has answered it in your life today. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭12‬ ‭KJV‬‬)
